A Google Cloud survey showed that 87% of video game developers use artificial intelligence agents to streamline and automate tasks. This is because the industry is focusing on cost optimization following a record wave of layoffs.
Most respondents in the report published Monday said AI is being released to help automate tedious and repetitive tasks, and developers are being released to focus on more creative concerns.
Game publishers have relied on AI to address the industry-wide challenges of balloon development costs and extended creation cycles due to high fan expectations and fierce competition.

The survey, conducted by Google and Harris polls, surveyed 615 game developers from the US, South Korea, Norway, Finland and Sweden between late June and early July.
Research has shown that approximately 44% of developers can use agents to optimize content, quickly process information such as text, voice, code, audio, video, and more, and use autonomy to make decisions.
However, the use of AI in video games is a highly controversial topic, with many people in the industry involved in potential unemployment, intellectual property disputes and low wages.
Last year, Hollywood video game performers were attacked beyond AI and paid for issues, with studios closed and more than 10,000 people losing their jobs.

The industry is expected to gain the next momentum this year, with premium titles and new console launches to increase spending.
Research shows that 94% of developers expect AI to reduce overall development costs over the long term. It finds it difficult to accurately measure the return on investment for AI implementations, but the costs associated with technology integration are also high.
Approximately 63% of those surveyed expressed concern about data ownership as the legality of the licensing and who owns the exact content generated by AI remains unknown.
