Alice and Bob unveil first quantum system available to research partners

‘Helium quantum system’ and starboard interface mark major step on roadmap to build universal fault-tolerant quantum computers by 2030

Alice & Bob, a leader in fault-tolerant quantum computing, today announced the Helium Quantum System. This marks the company’s expansion from developing cat-qubit chips to offering complete quantum computing systems for on-premises deployments.

The helium quantum system is designed to encode Alice and Bob’s first logical qubit in just 18 cat qubits. The entire system, from the processor architecture to the cabling, control electronics, and software stack, is optimized for quantum error correction.
Designed as an upgradable platform, the quantum system also supports the next 48 Cat qubit chips on Alice and Bob’s roadmap and is expected to feature multiple logical qubits.

Alice & Bob invites research partners to perform experiments on helium quantum systems and collaborate with the company to advance fault-tolerant quantum computing research. The system allows researchers to integrate quantum and classical computing resources within a single computing infrastructure, such as those found in high-performance computing (HPC) centers.

By providing direct access to the cat-qubit architecture, Alice & Bob provides a platform for researching quantum error correction, logical qubits, and the path to fault-tolerant quantum computing.

The Helium Quantum System is designed with operational efficiency in mind and requires approximately 40 kW of power to run, helping to reduce the cost of deploying advanced quantum systems, one of the major bottlenecks in quantum computing today.

As part of the launch, Alice & Bob will release a custom monitoring interface to Starboard that provides administrators with visibility into 18-cat qubit systems. Administrators can visualize system behavior, monitor individual qubit performance, schedule workloads, and track live hardware metrics through a single dashboard. Starboard is equipped with highly automated software designed by Alice & Bob. Starboard brings together the tools you need to monitor, run, and optimize your Helium quantum systems.

The Helium Quantum System is compatible with the most popular HPC schedulers (including Slurm) through open source QRMI libraries and other third-party solutions. Users can connect to the Helium Quantum System using Alice & Bob’s proprietary Felis software framework to provide custom instructions tailored to the Helium chip while maintaining compatibility with leading quantum programming frameworks.
