New Delhi: Fans and well-wishers of Bollywood diva Alia Bhatt woke up in alarm as yet another deepfake video of their favourite actress went viral on social media.
The artificial intelligence (AI)-powered video sees Alia taking part in the popular Get Ready With Me (GRWM) trend and was uploaded on Instagram by user “Sameeksha Avtr” around three days ago.
Alia Bhatt deepfake video
Sameeksha Avtul wrote in his Instagram bio, “All videos are made using AI for entertainment purposes only,” and shared a post featuring Alia Bhatt on June 11, 2024, through his social media account.
The post shows the “Student of the Year” actress' face superimposed onto the body of another woman who is simultaneously getting dressed for the camera and filming herself (GRWM). The video has so far garnered over 20 million views on Instagram alone, with mostly negative reactions from internet users.
Reactions of Internet users
Taking to the comments section of Alia Bhatt's AI deepfake video, netizens slammed the Instagram user for creating a deepfake video of Alia and uploading it on social media without her permission.
While many have expressed concern over the misuse of AI technology increasing day by day, some have called on authorities to enact laws to specifically regulate AI and restrict its use by the general public.
“Artificial intelligence is scary at this point,” one user wrote. Another questioned, “Is it even legal to post these kinds of videos with edited faces?” A third added, “I really hope consent is given to use AI that uses real human faces.”
