Abu Dhabi: On the second day of the 10th International Congress of Dermatology and Aesthetics (AIDA), currently taking place in Abu Dhabi, the first ever educational medical competition was held in the UAE for dermatologists who have recently completed their training programmes from several (GCC) countries.
The competition saw the participation of 12 doctors from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait. Each country was represented by three doctors who had to answer a series of medical and histological questions as well as general cultural questions. The Kuwaiti team emerged as winner, while the UAE team came second.
The competition was organized by the Scientific Committee and the Conference Organizing Committee. The winning team from Kuwait was awarded a trophy, certificates and prizes. Other teams were also given gifts.
On the second day of the conference, participants discussed important topics in dermatology and cosmetic dermatology and the latest developments in the specialty.
Dr Khaled Osman, founder of Dermatology & Aesthetic Consultants and conference chairman, said the first two days of the conference featured in-depth and extensive discussions on developments in therapeutic approaches in dermatology and aesthetics, and how the fourth industrial revolution and artificial intelligence can be leveraged to enhance the treatment of skin diseases.
He also asserted that the world is witnessing a rapid increase in technology and innovation in various sectors. The health sector is particularly keen to benefit from these technologies in the treatment of various ailments, with a particular focus on dermatological diseases. Moreover, the sector is keen to leverage modern innovations to revolutionize the beauty industry.
Dr. Huda Rajab, Chair of the Dermatology Department and Incoming Chair and Co-Chair of the Dermatology Programme at AHS-SEHA Abu Dhabi, said that the conference will provide essential scientific resources for dermatologists. The conference will provide an opportunity for 60 specialists and experts to present their research findings and share their scientific experiences in the treatment of dermatological and cosmetic diseases. It will also provide a forum to exchange ideas and visions and learn about the latest developments in the field.
The second day of the conference featured a special session on anti-ageing, where a number of dermatologists and aesthetic experts presented papers on the latest concepts in skin enhancers, facial threading, scar correction and skin care preparation.
The conference also covered current topics such as aesthetics, aesthetic medicine, the use of artificial intelligence in medicine, cyber cosmetic surgery, the use of sponge spikes for biostimulation (indications, methods, results), the use of ultrasound in aesthetic medicine, etc.
The second day of AIDA-2024 featured a panel discussion on Thiamidol, a new drug for the treatment of pigmentation. There was also a workshop on psoriasis focusing on genital psoriasis, new treatments for psoriasis, and the process of selecting the right treatment for each patient. Additionally, an allergy symposium was held to discuss the challenges in treating urticaria and the potential role of allergy immunotherapy in allergic skin diseases.
The three-day event is expected to be attended by around 750 international experts, physicians, lecturers and representatives of dermatology, aesthetic and laser professional societies from the GCC, Middle East and international professional societies, with an additional 60 local and international experts and specialists expected to present their dermatology, aesthetic and laser expertise.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Health recognised attendance at the conference as 16.5 hours of continuing medical education, while the European Committee for Continuing Medical Education recognised it as 18.5 hours.
