  • “AI” is trending in Google searches, but it has yet to reach the peak that Bitcoin did in 2017.
  • AllianceBernstein analysts used data from Google Trends to calculate the numbers.
  • One reason AI is lagging behind (at least for now) may be that AI is not a new term.

AI is making waves as it permeates everyday life, but technology experts at Alliance Bernstein found that people were searching less for AI than Bitcoin in 2017.

In an investor note on Wednesday, Mark Sirskey said interest in the term “AI” is at an “all-time high,” based on data from Google Trends, which tracks how often people search for certain terms. ” said.

But, he noted, “it still falls far short of the absolute hype of ‘Bitcoin’.”

Schilsky’s report shows a line chart comparing three search terms: “AI,” “Metaverse,” and “Bitcoin.” He noted that these areas have been the most active areas in the tech industry over the past five years.

A screen capture from Google Trends shows what AllianceBernstein analyst Mark Silski pointed out to a client. So far, the peak search volume for “Bitcoin” is higher than the peak search volume for “AI.” Also, the “Metaverse” never really took off.

When it comes to the latest data, the terms “artificial intelligence” and “AI” have been around for so long that people are searching for “bitcoin” as often as they did during the geek peak of 2017. You may not have searched for “AI”. decades since at least the 1950s. (Bitcoin, on the other hand, was a relatively new invention at the time.)

And perhaps because many see the Metaverse as a place for video games and not something that the average person can use in their daily lives, usage of the Metaverse hasn’t increased significantly. This is very unfortunate for Mark Zuckerberg.

With the trendline of “AI” searches, and the apparent inevitability of it becoming an ever more important part of our lives, it will probably be some time before it surpasses “Bitcoin” in terms of search volume. It must be a problem. But we’re not quite there yet.
