Syracuse, New York defense Research and development company SRC Co., Ltd. has been awarded a $24 million contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop next-generation embedded artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities across the ground, air, and space domains.
Under the terms of the agreement, SRC is tasked with developing new ML algorithms. High performance embedded computing architecture. Ultra-low size, weight, and power (SWaP) hardware intended to use these algorithms for mission tasks such as in-vehicle data processing, situational awareness, and information analysis.
According to information in the SRC announcement, the effort focuses on advances in edge processing, defined here as the ability to analyze large amounts of data and run complex algorithms directly on the platform, rather than relying on remote data centers. SRC is working to significantly accelerate data processing as the U.S. Air Force moves toward operating distributed, highly consumable systems operating in high-conflict environments, company officials said.
