AI is changing the nature of learning: Ramamurthy

AHMEDABAD: Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Electrical Engineering and former Director of IIT Madras, said on Saturday that it has always been said that learning is a lifelong process, but that has never been truer than today as AI has changed the way we learn. Therefore, an institution’s curriculum can be extensive and focused on building a strong foundation. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 20th convocation of Dhirubhai Ambani University (DAU), Gandhinagar.A total of 649 students were awarded degrees at the ceremony, including 6 doctoral students, 295 graduate students, and 348 postgraduate students.“In areas such as technology and engineering, we have had to rely on people and organizations that have a lot of embedded knowledge. You asked for their guidance to help you learn. Even at work, you relied on the guidance of your mentors and bosses. However, with the advent of AI, that has changed dramatically. ” said Professor Ramamurthy. “Learning has become more direct and needs-based. Learning in educational institutions is extensive and teaches you how to do it.To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the university announced its inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award, with the first award being presented to 2005 graduate Pavitar Singh. At the pre-convocation ceremony, student and faculty achievement awards were announced.
