“My statements to the media outside Parliament were maliciously altered using AI and a deepfake video was created and disseminated to spread misinformation,” Goyal said in the post.
He said strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved in the creation, dissemination and amplification of the alleged fake video.
“Irresponsible misuse of artificial intelligence to mislead the public cannot and will not be tolerated,” the Union minister said.
Mr. Goyal also appealed to the public to rely only on verified and authentic sources. “I have full faith that the conscious and tech-savvy citizens of India, especially the youth, will not fall prey to such misinformation,” he added.
The government yesterday debunked a video circulating on social media in which Goyal was seen making threatening remarks about students protesting in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Goyal said on Friday that social activist Sonam Wangchuck has ended her fast after receiving an assurance from the government, noting that the decision reflects Wangchuck’s confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government’s commitment to the nation’s youth.
