DataLab contributes to AI Fundamentals

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the way organizations operate, and FAO is no exception. Breakthroughs in tools such as large-scale language models (LLMS) and generation AI (Genai) have emerged new opportunities to enhance data management, knowledge generation and decision-making. To help FAO colleagues get a better understanding of this evolving landscape, DataLab has been co-combined with members of the FAO AI community to help them gain access to the AI Fundermals internal webinar series.

It runs every second Wednesday (from 9)th (until mid-July 2025 in April), it is designed to provide a practical introduction to AI concepts and tools, with a special focus on how it can be applied to FAO's work. It is intended for non-technical colleagues who want to understand what AI is, how it works, and where it can make a difference in daily tasks.

What makes the AI Fundamentals Webinar series unique is that it is completely led by FAO colleagues. The sessions showcase real projects, challenges and innovations from across the organization, including work by data labs. Each hour-long session combines short explanations with live demos and concrete examples to always leave room for discussion and feedback.

Topics include the fundamentals of machine learning, Genai tools for text and images, geospatial AI applications, communication and publishing use cases, and the role of governance in responsible AI adoption. It's not just about understanding technology, it's about exploring ways for FAO personnel to use these tools to work smarter, communicate more effectively, and support evidence-based behavior in food and agriculture.
