AI Elements Teach a Million People the Fundamentals of AI

Over 1 million people from 170 countries have learned the fundamentals of AI through Elements of AI, making it one of the most popular online courses in the world to date. This course has been translated into 26 languages.

The University of Helsinki and Finnish learning company MinnaLearn launched Elements of AI in 2018 to provide free access to easy-to-understand AI knowledge.

Today, many AI applications, such as text generation, have become commonplace for many. Localization expands access to AI knowledge to a wider audience

Elements of AI was originally founded with the mission of educating 1% of the Finnish population in the basics of artificial intelligence.

During the EU Presidency in December 2019, Finland decided to invest in the future skills of Europeans and make the Elements of AI online course available free of charge to all member states. To date, the course has been translated into 26 languages ​​and localized in 30 countries in partnership with local universities and companies.

“The availability of information in different languages ​​will enable more people to participate in the changes brought about by artificial intelligence. We are always discussing launching courses in new countries,” says Ville Valtonen, Founder and CEO of MinnaLearn.

Diverse user group

Elements of AI will continue to provide education on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and further develop courses to meet business needs. In Finland alone, 250 companies have already used the course to train their employees in the basics of artificial intelligence.

This course brought together a diverse group of users. 40% of course participants are women, and more than 25% of users are over 45 years old.

In addition to Elements of AI, the University of Helsinki offers several MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) on AI. Ethics in AI is suitable for those interested in the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence. Building AI describes the algorithms behind AI.
