AI and customer service jobs drive job market growth in India

According to a new report by Indeed, a global matching and recruiting platform, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) engineer roles are set to surge by 433% since 2022. The analysis from January 2022 to June 2024 revealed that there has been a significant increase in both hi-tech and service-oriented roles across sectors in India.

This was followed by BPO executive roles with a 313% increase, highlighting the continued expansion of India's outsourcing industry.Other fast-growing roles include receptionist (up 309%), travel consultant (284%) and electrician (258%).

“The surge in AI/ML engineer roles highlights the importance of technological innovation in today's job market, while the significant increase in BPO executive roles reflects India's strong outsourcing capabilities,” said Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India.

The report also identified the fastest growing sectors, with sanitation leading the way with a growth rate of 159%, followed by construction (121%), therapy (102%), education (96%) and health care (91%).

The surge in therapy jobs suggests increased attention to mental health services, while increases in construction and electrician jobs suggest a boom in infrastructure and real estate development.

The data highlights the importance of both technical skills and customer service capabilities in today's economy.

Indeed's analysis was based on job posting data on its platform, which is used by about 3.5 million employers around the world to find and hire new employees.
