We cannot deny it but the fast-changing world particularly on technology is affecting almost everything in our lives. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems are changing every facet of our daily lives and there are repercussions to it, aside from the adjustments that we have to endure.
A computer AI system, the ChatGPT is affecting if not disrupting the global education system as its chatbot program can immensely help students in their examinations, researches, take-home works and school projects. It does however, make students lazy too to exert efforts in their learning processes. Efforts such as in research, already entails learning and without any effort, students miss the process and the learning.
In examinations, many learners would resort to merely relying on AI, doing away with memorizing or studying the past lessons that they expect in their examinations. Somehow, students tend to cheat on their examinations rather than internalizing what their teachers had taught them. In an instant, AI can provide answers and the human mind would not mind processing information learned inside classrooms.
While we cannot prevent technology from taking its course, scientists, programmers and computer experts can somehow establish safeguards against the use and abuse of AI in students’ learning processes. They need to put boundaries on the AI before the latter will continue to rule our world in the future.
There are a number of science-fiction movies that portray AI many years ago. In the beginning of the said movies, everything about AI is good, as it helps human lives be automated and improved. However, there came some points when AI machines and equipment suffered malfunctions and they were taking over human processes. The “robots” went berserk and even attempted to take over mankind in their attempt to rule over the earth.
In a movie of former California Governor and Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger, machines with AI are taking over the world. These androids have their own minds and can decide for themselves. They can do something at their own volition and without being told to do so. In short, AI is little by little giving life to objects.
Schools are now adopting AI. One technique for school personnel is going back to basics such as manual examinations, school projects that don’t need a computer, among others. Some schools meanwhile resort to oral examinations or “ChatGPT-proof” assignments.
There are activities of man that are being improved by the AI. However, like everything else in this world, there needs to be some limitations. The intervention of man in his activities is still needed and we cannot just rely on intelligence that was made by man but will also destroy the latter.
