Adobe announced a multi-year partnership with Runway to bring generated video directly into Adobe Firefly and deeper into Creative Cloud over time. The idea is to make AI-generated videos part of the same tools people already use to edit, finalize, and deliver professional projects.
Runway provides AI video generation tools that allow users to create clips from text prompts, control motion and pacing, and experiment with different visual ideas without shooting footage. It's in the same general realm as tools like OpenAI's Sora, but is often used as a practical production tool.

As part of the agreement, Adobe will become Runway's preferred API creative partner. This means Adobe customers will have early access to Runway's latest models within Firefly, including the new Gen-4.5 model, which will be available for a limited time on both Firefly and Runway's own platform.
“As AI transforms video production, professionals are turning to Adobe's creative ecosystem, from Firefly to Premiere to After Effects, to imagine, create, and scale their stories to every screen,” said Ely Greenfield, Adobe's chief technology officer and senior vice president of digital media. “Combining Runway's generative video innovation with Adobe's trusted professional workflows will help creators and brands expand their creative possibilities and meet the growing demands of modern content and media production.”

The new Gen-4.5 upgrade provides improved motion, enhanced prompt controls, and consistent visuals from shot to shot. Within Firefly, creators can generate clips from text, quickly experiment with different orientations, and assemble those clips in Firefly's video editor. Bring your content into Premiere Pro, After Effects, and other Creative Cloud apps for more precision.
“We are building AI tools that redefine creativity, storytelling, and entertainment, with Gen-4.5 as our latest example,” said Cristóbal Valenzuela, co-founder and CEO of Runway. “This partnership will bring our latest generative video technology to more storytellers within Adobe's creative tools, which are already the industry standard for many creators around the world.”
Adobe and Runway say they will work directly with filmmakers, studios, agencies, streaming platforms, and brands to bring new video features to Adobe apps.

If AI video generation is part of the same software used for final delivery, it will inevitably become part of everyday production. So questions arise about how it is used, where it is acceptable, and what it means for creative roles across film, television and advertising.
According to Adobe, Firefly users can mix and match different models, including their own and Runway's models, depending on the job, without having to use that content to train an AI system.
Runway Gen-4.5 is currently available on Adobe Firefly and Runway platforms, and Adobe Firefly Pro users can get unlimited generations until December 22nd.
