Adobe has previewed a new generative AI upscaler called VideoGigaGAN that can upscale low-resolution, blurry videos by up to 8x.
In a paper published by Adobe on April 18th, VideoGigaGAN was revealed to be an impressive upscaler that achieves incredible results for even the worst source images.

Adobe says VideoGigaGAN is superior to other video super-resolution techniques because it avoids strange AI artifacts and produces finer-grained details. It is built on the massive upscaler GigaGAN and adds a temporal module and technology enhancements to improve the temporal consistency of unsampled videos.
The Verge Note that while Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are great for upscaling still images, they have not been proven effective for video. This will cause unnecessary flickering. There are other upscaling methods, but they don't give as good results as GANS.
Adobe showed off some examples of using 124×124 video and upscaling it to 1024×1024, but the results are definitely impressive, and it's hard to say that the AI worked its magic. It was something.

For now, VideoGigaGAN is just a research preview and there are no immediate plans to bring it to Premiere Pro or its Creative Cloud suite. This follows the news that Microsoft is also developing his AI Super Resolution for Windows 11 called Automatic Super Resolution.
