Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has announced that four new “machine learning” cameras will be installed in the coming weeks.
Since late last year, TfNSW has regularly installed thousands of machine learning traffic counting and classifying cameras across the state.
These cameras are equipped to take pictures of large vehicles and classify the type of vehicle being transported and the type of cargo being transported.
In the coming weeks, truck drivers can expect cameras to be installed at:
- Golden Hwy Putty Rd/Mitchell Line of Rd, Whittingham
- New England Highway, Liddell
- Pacific Highway in Raleigh, 1.5 km north of Bellinger River Bridge
- Newell Highway, Namoi River Bridge, Cooma Road Narrabri.
The unit can also track changes in load. If a shipping container truck enters the location with one container and departs with two containers, the platform will contain a record of this change.
This heavy vehicle traffic information will help NSW Transport shape the future of freight, better understand freight movements, improve road safety and enable more efficient deliveries. .
TfNSW said the cameras were not used for policing or monitoring people or private vehicles.
According to TfNSW, in addition to the locations mentioned above, similar cameras can also be found at:
- Cockfighters Bridge, Wollombi Brook
- Dr. Thomas Mitchell, Muswellbrook
- Camillaroy Highway/Waverly Road Railroad Crossing, Wellith Creek
- carluis crossing
- Xiahan Bridge (northbound only), Gundagai
- Foreshore Road, Port Botany, Sydney
