Amazon is making big inroads into generative AI for Hollywood. At the “AI on the Lot” event held at Culver Studios on May 27, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios and Amazon Web Services (AWS) GenAI Creators Fund and If the projectis a purpose-built AI production platform designed to accelerate cinematic storytelling while keeping human creativity at the center.
What is GenAI Creators Fund?
The fund provides filmmakers, digital creators, and technology startups with grants, funding, and exclusive access to advanced AI tools.

- Support professional filmmakers in developing GenAI workflows.
- We fund proofs of concept and short works from creators with large online audiences.
- We help startups validate their technology against real-world film production needs.
As part of the launch, Prime Video has already greenlit three animated series produced using the new platform.
- cupcakes & friends (BuzzFeed Studio);
- Love, Diana Music Hunters (Albie Hecht / pocket.watch);
- punky duck (Jorge R. Gutierrez).
These projects demonstrate how this work marries the efficiency of AI with great storytelling.
Introduction to Project Nara
If the project It serves as the technical backbone: an end-to-end collaborative AI production platform built on AWS infrastructure. This is available only to the Amazon MGM Studios team and selected GenAI Creators’ Fund participants.

- Intelligent task routing: Nara automatically routes production tasks and selects the best AI model (third-party or proprietary) for each step from concept art to final render.
- Hybrid model approach: Combines external video generation models with Amazon’s proprietary solutions trained on MGM Studios’ vast content library to ensure stylistic consistency and cinematic quality.
- Seamless integration: AI agents connect directly to industry standard tools such as: Maya, Blender, Nuke, Unreal Engineand complete adobe creative suite. Creators can continue working in a familiar environment with AI assistance.
- provenance tracking: Built-in systems document the origin and history of all assets generated, helping maintain copyright management, transparency, and accountability.
Project Nala addresses common pain points in current AI video pipelines: inconsistent characters, motion artifacts, and continuity issues by intelligently adjusting models throughout the idea-to-screen pipeline.
Impact on the industry

At the same time, Project Nala’s closed nature (limited to approved creators) and strong provenance capabilities respond to ongoing concerns about intellectual property protection and job losses in the industry.
Amazon executives emphasize that these tools are designed to: empower Do not replace the human Creator, but replace the human Creator. According to a statement, the fund and platform “places human creativity at the center of efforts to integrate generative AI into production processes.”

The road ahead
With three series already in production and more grants expected, Project Nala has the potential to reshape the way animated and live-action content is produced. This marks Hollywood’s broader shift to cloud-native, AI-enhanced workflows where speed and scale meet cinematic standards.
For creators, this means new opportunities to turn ideas into polished works faster than ever before. For the industry, this is a test case for balancing innovation, ethics, and artistry in the age of generative AI.
