Morgan Freeman responds to a controversial TikTok user pretending to be his niece.
AI has been a major concern in Hollywood since last year's WGA and SAG walkouts brought attention to the issue. From Marvel star Clark Gregg, who testified before Congress last year during the debate over anti-counterfeiting legislation, to Tom Hanks, who warned fans when his likeness was used without his permission in a commercial, a number of high-profile actors have denounced AI in the past year or so. Now, Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman is blaming AI for his familiar voice being used frequently in AI impersonations. Freeman appears to have become aware of a TikTok user named @JustinesCameraRoll who went viral for using AI to pose as his niece. Freeman addressed the issue on Twitter this week.

At the SAG Awards in February, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher spoke further about the dangers of AI during her speech.
“This was a pivotal moment in the history of our union that will determine the trajectory of many generations to come: brave instead of fearful, powerful instead of timid, partner instead of subordinate,” Drescher said in her speech. “In the fight for a better TV theatrical deal, a global idea was born: AI will trap us in the matrix, where no one knows what is real. If inventors lack empathy and spirituality, it may not be the invention we need. Dystopian stories can become self-fulfilling prophecies. We need to tell stories that inspire the human spirit, connect us to the natural world, and awaken our capacity to love unconditionally.”
“What does female leadership look like for women and girls?” she continued. “We don't need to emulate the energy of men, but rather lead with intellect, compassion, wisdom and wear red lipstick. Sometimes it's hard to see the frame when you're in the picture. But a renaissance can happen. Each of us can work to cultivate empathy within ourselves.
