AI partner app EVA AI chatbot has introduced an LGBTQ+ character that can now text, video call and send photos with users.
Also known as “AI Girlfriend” or “AI Boyfriend,” the digital companion app has introduced four new chatbot characters for users to interact with.
EVA AI's Pride Month update includes a gay character named Teddy, a transgender woman named Cherry, a bisexual character named Edward and a lesbian character named Sam.
Buttons beneath each character allow users to send messages of “family,” “food,” “love,” and even “spicy” to prompt the bot to respond.
Users can exchange messages with each character through voice messages, text messages, video calls and photos, which the brand says “enables a personalized level of virtual connection.”
The 3D bots are visually customizable and “tailored to the user's specific interests and desires, as well as an authentic, engaging conversational style.”
“We're excited to expand our companion lineup to include LGBTQ+ characters,” an EVA AI spokesperson said in a statement.
“This development is more than just a technological advancement – it's a celebration of diversity and inclusivity. By offering more representative options, we aim to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all users, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community.”
Dating apps including Grindr are reportedly considering introducing “AI boyfriend” bots that could sext, flirt and maintain relationships with users.
The danger of adopting such technology is that people may become overly dependent on interacting with chatbots and lose the desire to interact with real people (in this case, to date or have sex).
While that may sound unrealistic, a 2019 study found that “very real challenges await, including the potential disruption of intimate relationships between people, the objectification of women, and modeling sexual relationships with partners for whom there is no emotional or sexual desire.”
The introduction of such “AI partners” may also reduce income opportunities for sex workers, especially those who offer paid sexting or phone line services. AI allows sexually inclined clients to fulfill their sexual needs without the societal demands of speaking to a real human being.
