Artificial intelligence seems to be everywhere nowadays. Even with its current state and limitations, the technology is already impacting everything from how text and images are created to the way we live and work.
ChatGPT, Gemini, Stable Diffusion, and DALL-E are examples of generative AI technologies, which are systems that generate new content based on past experience. Some of these are available online for free or with a small subscription.
The way artificial intelligence (AI) unlocks new powers and shifts existing powers sets it apart from other technological waves. This is the most overlooked feature of the current technological revolution: every technological wave shifts power structures in its wake, but we have never seen a pure expansion of power.
However, some people believe that AI is not as smart as it is claimed to be. A recent viral video features a person discussing the limitations of artificial intelligence, explaining that it is simply a system that is good at speeding up Google searches.
Watch the video here:
In the video, the man claims that AI is algorithmic learning, not true artificial intelligence. He claims that future generations will look upon us as fools for believing otherwise. He claims that AI will neither end the world nor save it, but will eventually self-destruct.
The video went viral and sparked discussion on Instagram, with many people posting comments.
“But this guy really seems to think he's found something. You have to admire his fake confidence,” one user commented.
“This guy has no understanding of neural networks whatsoever. AI is real and I don't Google it so please stop. As a computer science student this really pisses me off,” wrote another.
“AI learns from existing knowledge and so do we. We learn from what we know and that doesn't mean we don't post everything on the internet. AI can also learn from your actions so, simply put, it's a lot more dangerous than you think,” a third user commented.
