Kling is a new AI video model from Chinese content platform Kuaishou, and judging by examples shared on social media, it appears to be as good or better than OpenAI's Sora.
The model can generate high-resolution videos up to two minutes long and has an exceptionally good understanding of real-world physics, which results in significantly improved character and object movement in the generated videos.
Currently in private beta, the app has seen many users share dozens of catchy short videos, and while it's currently only available in China, Kling's developers say they're “actively exploring ways” to open it up to a wider audience around the world.
OpenAI may want to accelerate its release plans, as Sora is still being used only by industry professionals and filmmakers. At the same time, Pika Labs and Runway are also making significant improvements to their AI models.
A new clip of Kling has been shared
Dozens of new clips are shared every day, both from people who have been granted early access to the Kling model, and from the model's development team itself.
I've seen short films, trailers, and traditional 3-5 second single shot clips created with Kling. They cover everything from photorealistic animals to futuristic environments. Here are some of my favorites:
1. First-person shooter games

The first video I found was made by the Kling team in response to an impromptu call for ideas for X. It depicts a scene resembling a first-person shooter game.
Prompt from Michael Bollox of X: “First person shot of a video game with a gun in each hand, a character shooting a revolver at a distant target, explosions in the distance, Unreal Engine.”
2. Mosaic of Another World

Next came a five-second video of a mosaic floor, giving the impression of a connection to something bigger. I don't think I followed the prompt exactly, but that could be because I needed more explanation.
Prompt from X user neb: “A mosaic where each piece of the mosaic represents a different dystopian world.”
3. The End of the World

The next image shows a post-apocalyptic city with rain falling and a pink neon sign visible – again, this doesn't quite follow the prompt and this type of movement is achievable with the current model, but it's impressive nonetheless.
Prompt from X-user UXTO: “A continuous shot zooming forward in time of a post-apocalyptic city. It's raining, there's a commercial neon-lit pink sign in the background, low lighting and a bit of fog.”
5. Animal Boxing
The next few videos were shared by the Kling team on YouTube and are made up of a series of shots rather than a single clip. The first video shows the preparations for an “Animal Boxing” tournament. It's part of Kling's “Zootopia in the Real World” series. It was created by Kling user Lightning Kiki.
6. Dragon Boat Festival
The following short video was released to mark the start of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. In a comment on YouTube, the company said, “Kling wishes you all good health and happiness!” The video was created by user 爱智峛 (Aichi Prefecture) using Kling.
7. Real-life Zootopia
Finally, there's a wider range of “Real Life Zootopia” videos, with realistic animals performing human tasks and activities, like a rabbit reading the newspaper. If you're in China, Kling is available within the Kwaiying app.
