Elastic announces Search AI Lake for low-latency cloud applications

Applications of AI

Elastic announced a first-of-its-kind cloud-native architecture optimized for real-time, low-latency applications such as search, search extension generation (RAG), security, and observability. The development, named Search AI Lake, powers the new Elastic Cloud Serverless offering, a solution designed to reduce operational overhead by automatically scaling and managing workloads.

Search AI Lake combines the expansive data storage capabilities of a traditional data lake with the powerful search and artificial intelligence relevance capabilities of Elasticsearch. The new platform aims to deliver high query performance without compromising scalability, relevance, and affordability.

Search AI Lake benefits include infinite scalability, separation of compute and storage, and features that enable easy scaling and reliability. This architecture uses dynamic caching to achieve high throughput, frequent updates, and interactive queries of large amounts of data. This eliminates the need to duplicate indexing operations across multiple servers, reducing indexing costs and data duplication.

One of our key innovations, real-time, low-latency, provides enhancements that maintain good query performance even when data is securely stored in object stores. Introducing smart caching and segment-level query parallelism to reduce latency and facilitate faster data retrieval and faster request processing.

Search AI Lake provides independent scaling of indexing and queries. By separating indexing and search at a granular level, the platform can scale independently and automatically to meet the needs of a wide range of workloads. Additionally, users can take advantage of a comprehensive suite of powerful AI relevance search and re-ranking capabilities.

Other exciting features include Elasticsearch's powerful query language and built-in analytics, native machine learning capabilities that directly optimize machine learning on all your data for better predictions, regardless of its source or structure. , true distributed search capabilities that enable rapid query and analysis from data sources. .

In the words of Elastic Chief Product Officer Ken Exner, “Meeting the requirements of more AI and real-time workloads requires new architectures that can handle compute and storage at enterprise speed and scale. One thing is clear: It's not just one or the other. Search AI Lake will put a damper on traditional data lakes that tried to meet this need but were unable to handle real-time applications. This new architecture and the serverless projects it powers are what you need for search, observability, and functionality for tomorrow's security workloads.”

Search AI Lake and Elastic Cloud Serverless, currently available in technology preview, represent a major transformation in data architecture and promise to usher in an era of fast, real-time, low-latency applications powered by Elastic.
