Tech-savvy users say Discord uses machine learning to predict users' gender and age range.
X user Discord preview We discovered a tip for Discord that uses machine learning (ML), an application of AI, to assign genders and age groups to users. They pulled information from Discord's data package and claimed the company has been doing so “since at least August 2022.”
“The data is located in Activities/Analysis/Events.[…].json files for some Discord data packages, but the exact requirements are unclear,” DiscordPreviews wrote. She also shared a screenshot of her JSON file showing the age and gender assigned to an undefined user. The user in question has been identified as a male between the ages of 18 and 24.
Discord doesn't require you to add your gender when signing up. You can also add pronouns, but this is also not required.
However, users must enter their date of birth when signing up for an account to ensure they can only access servers appropriate to their age.
Discord did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

- Go to Activities then go to Analytics
- When you open the file, you will see “Predicted Gender” in the code.
Run Search for “predicted_gender” events-2024-00000-of-00001.json If the file is too large to open in an editor, run the command:
