Dell Technologies' John Scimone talks about governance and ethical use of AI

Artificial intelligence technology plays a major role in modern business security. John Simone, president and chief security officer of Dell Technologies, highlighted the disruptive yet beneficial nature of AI and shared three imperatives for security professionals: Managing the new risks associated with AI deployments. , emphasized preparing for the criminal misuse of AI, and using AI to improve security outcomes.

Simone advised engaging diverse expertise to ensure responsible AI. “We want to ensure that we use technology to create more good than potential harm. We need to weigh both the potential business value and the organizational outcomes we are trying to achieve. In some cases, we want to make sure that the data we're collecting is relevant and not excessive,” Simone said.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2024, Simone also said:

- Dell's efforts to advance AI safety and security.
At Dell Technologies, Scimone leads the company's global enterprise security and resiliency programs. Prior to joining Dell, he was Global CISO for the Sony Group of Companies, where he was responsible for building Sony's first global information security and privacy organization and leading strategy, policy, and operations. Prior to that, he held a number of leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Defense.
