A series of ground-breaking AI projects have been awarded £12m of funding to address the challenges of rapid advances in artificial intelligence.
Three initiatives in the UK aim to address emerging concerns about generative AI and other forms of AI that are currently being built and deployed across society.
The project covers the health and social care sectors, law enforcement and financial services.
Two further UKRI-funded projects are looking at how responsible AI can contribute to improved productivity and how the public voice can be amplified in the design and deployment of these technologies. Masu.
Funded by Responsible AI UK (RAi UK), it will form the backbone of a £31m program that will run over four years.
RAi UK is led by the University of Southampton and supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the UKRI Technology Mission Fund and EPSRC. UKRI has also committed an additional £4 million in funding to further support these efforts.

Since its launch last year, RAi UK has provided £13m of research funding. The company is developing its own research programs that support ongoing work across key initiatives including the AI Safety Institute, the Alan Turing Institute and BRAID UK.
RAi UK is supported by UKRI, the largest public funder of research and innovation, as part of the government's plans to transform the UK into the AI development powerhouse of the future.
