This brings to light disturbing issues with an app that helps users create non-consensual nude image 'deepfakes'. Thanks to the wonders of AI, it has never been easier to cause this kind of harm.
While Apple's safety rules and regulations are naturally robust, there are still loopholes that aren't easily closed. As 404 observes, the advertised app is an “art generation” app. These are not called “porn-generating” apps because they cannot pass Apple's checks.
For example, if a user had no idea what one of the offending apps did because of ads on major social media platforms, it may be the case that the user had no idea that the app was available on the App Store. It's possible that it wasn't. And if users who want to generate deepfakes of people against their will and without their knowledge can't find the app without help, what are the chances that Apple will?
There are countless “AI face swap” and “AI art generator” apps on the App Store, but perhaps not all of them are wolves in sheep's clothing. But some are. Unless the developer explicitly says so on another platform, the only way to know which is which is by using the app.

Mac Daily News opinion: Unless Apple employees manually try and scrutinize every part of every app, this AI deepfake app battle may indeed be a lost war. Perhaps AI itself will be able to more thoroughly test and scrutinize apps in the future?
