TL;DR
- YouTube is testing a new AI-powered Ask a Question button that lets you ask questions about the videos you're watching and receive answers in real time.
- This feature is currently available to some YouTube Premium subscribers in the US using the Android app.
Google's AI is everywhere, and its next goal is to transform the YouTube experience. The platform is currently testing new conversational AI features that will help viewers get the most out of the videos they watch by facilitating real-time Q&A directly within the video.
This feature is currently experimental and limited to YouTube's Android app for U.S.-based YouTube Premium subscribers age 18 and older.
Once you enable this feature in your account, you will see a[質問]The button will now be visible. Viewers can type questions about the video or choose from prompts for summary and related content. AI processes both video content and queries and provides context-relevant responses without pausing playback.
The response appears to be fairly accurate and surprisingly quick, indicating that Google's AI may already be pre-analyzing the YouTube video before invoking this feature.
As far as I could see, the Ask prompt appeared on most videos where English was used for dialogue or narration of the content, including all the latest videos on the Android Authority YouTube channel. There were no question prompts in the informational video, which was in a mix of Hindi and English. The same goes for music videos.
For now, YouTube says the feature will only be available until May 1st, but we can't wait for it to be available to the public. YouTube has a treasure trove of informational videos and tutorials, and it's great to be able to easily summarize them or ask questions about the specific content you're looking for.
Are you happy with the state of YouTube in 2024?
