US-based social media giant Meta has announced Llama 3, its latest open source large-scale language model (LLM). Meta said it will first integrate this new artificial intelligence model with social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram, and then roll it out to developers such as Amazon AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud, Hugging Face, Microsoft Azure, and Nvidia NIM. Additionally, the company confirmed that the Llama 3 AI model will support hardware platforms provided by his AMD, NVIDIA, Intel, and Qualcomm.
Meta announced that it has integrated its Llama 3 AI model with Meta AI, an AI assistant that will soon be rolled out globally. For reference, Meta AI debuted last year but was limited to the US market. Below are the new features that Meta plans to bring to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and more.
Meta AI search
Meta AI will be available through in-app search within Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Meta said the AI assistant can access real-time information from the web. This essentially means that the AI assistant generates search results within the app based on the information available on the meta platform and the web.
Facebook Feed Meta AI
Meta said its AI assistant will be accessible across Facebook feeds. According to Meta, if you're interested in a post and want to know more about it or anything related to it, tap on his Meta AI icon below the post to ask his AI assistant for more information. For example, if you see a photo of the Northern Lights in Iceland, you can ask Meta AI when is the best time to see the Northern Lights.
AI image generator for WhatsApp
Meta is testing imagination generation features on WhatsApp. The AI image generation tool is being rolled out in WhatsApp beta to some users in the US.
This functionality can be accessed through the Meta AI chatbot within the application. Mehta said the feature allows users to prompt the assistant to generate a specific image based on a text description. The company says the AI-generated images change in real-time as users enter text prompts. Additionally, this feature allows users to animate the generated images and convert them into GIFs.
