Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons in connection with a deepfake video of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan allegedly promoting a political party, officials said.

The FIR was filed at Khan police station on Wednesday under sections 419 (impersonation), 420 (fraud) and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including provisions of the Information Technology Act, following a complaint by Khan's office, officials said. said.

In the 27-second video, which appears to have been edited using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Khan can be seen talking about moving away from rhetoric (Jumla).

A spokesperson for Mr. Khan said Tuesday that Mr. Khan has raised election awareness through campaigns for the Election Commission in the past, but has never promoted any political party.

“I would like to make it clear that Mr. Aamir Khan has never supported any political party in his 35-year career. He has been instrumental in raising awareness through public awareness campaigns of the Election Commission in many past elections. ” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“We are alarmed by a recent viral video in which Aamir Khan claims to be promoting a particular political party. He would like to make it clear that this is a fake video and completely false. “He has reported the matter to various authorities related to the matter and will coordinate the FIR with the Cyber ​​Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police,” the statement said.
