With Wimbledon just around the corner, the prestigious tennis tournament has partnered with technology pioneer IBN to bring a new feature to its coverage of the glorious grass court open.
SW19 announced that Major’s 2023 video highlights package will include commentary generated by IBM’s artificial intelligence. And the technological advances will be available on Wimbledon’s official application and website, as well as the major BBC coverage.
This state-of-the-art technology could also portend the ability to provide AI-generated commentary while live games are running in the near future.
IBM has worked with Wimbledon in the past to use AI to provide statistics and player metrics.

IBM’s Watsonx AI is populated with sports-specific vocabulary, combined with statistics and tennis records available in a chatbot-style system to recreate natural tennis jargon and jargon. .
The commentary generated by AI can also be converted to audio format using a separate system.

It has been reported that certain commentator voices can be duplicated and used if desired, but as it stands, the voices used are fully generated.
