How AI can create authentic DnD video games

“There are so many things players can do. It’s very difficult for us to preemptively know what players can do,” Norton explained. “On the other hand, if you have a better open-world game that leverages AI, the AI will react to it and say, ‘Oh, the player did this. You can use the tools to generate something so you don’t have to come up with all possible solutions in advance—in fact, you can have the equivalent of an automated dungeon master help you.”

Norton also commented on the game’s overall direction, believing it’s aimed at an open-world experience for players. “I think we’re moving towards sandbox style games in general. One thing I’ve noticed after working on video games for a while is that sandbox style games are becoming easier. I mean… about the first video game had to be very prescriptive and it was very difficult to do a lot of things and allow player choices etc. Now it’s more More open-ended games, more agencies, and still not perfect and still a lot of work to do. [But] It’s getting even better than it was 10 years ago. Every time computer power improves, we take a generational leap. “
