29 countries sign agreement to establish Global AI Cooperation Organization
Shanghai, July 16 (QNA) – Today, a total of 29 countries signed an agreement in Shanghai to establish the World Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence.
Under the terms of the agreement, the World Cooperation Agency for Artificial Intelligence will become an independent intergovernmental international organization headquartered in Shanghai.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 2026 World Congress on Artificial Intelligence and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance in China.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese government along with representatives of 29 other countries, including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia and Indonesia, making his country a founding member of the organization.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also attended the signing ceremony as one of the representatives of various countries and international organizations.
According to the agreement, the organization will uphold the objectives of the United Nations Charter, promote broad consultation and collective contribution for the common good, and adopt a people-centred approach.
The organization aims to strengthen international cooperation and global governance in artificial intelligence, ensure that AI is beneficial, safe and fair, and promote the healthy and orderly development of artificial intelligence for the benefit of all humanity. (QNA)
