In a dramatic turn of events, Elon Musk praised longtime rival Anthropic for its significant contributions in artificial intelligence, calling the company a “leader in AI.”
In a competitive technology environment, such a surprising U-turn has raised eyebrows as SpaceX’s CEO has repeatedly targeted AI startups and questioned the company’s ability to stand out as a winner in the frontier AI race.
Surprisingly, Musk clearly admitted in his post about X that he was wrong about anthropology.
In response to a discussion at X about Anthropic’s use of SpaceX AI infrastructure, Elon Musk claimed that his company is ahead of its competitors in the field of artificial intelligence.
“I was clearly wrong about Anthropic. They are clearly the leaders in AI right now. No company has released a model as good as Mythos/Fable. They will definitely have Mythos 2 ready soon,” Musk replied.
Regarding Anthropic’s reliance on SpaceXAI infrastructure, Musk made it clear that he never intended to manipulate the relationship to gain an advantage.
“And I would never cut them down in a way that really hurts them, even if they’re competitors. That’s not my style,” he added.
Musk further argued that Tesla’s decision to open source many of its patents supports this idea, adding: “We made the Supercharger network available to all competitors, when it could have been a walled garden.”
These promising statements signal a departure from the tone that has always criticized anthropology. “Winning was an unthinkable outcome for Anthropic,” Musk wrote last year. Tesla’s CEO also accused Anthropic of being “evil and misanthropic.”
But the relationship turned positive in May 2026, when the U.S.-based AI company signed a deal with SpaceX to lease the entire capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center facility in Memphis, Tennessee. The facility offers more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and more than 300 megawatts of power.
