When will AI-based business transformation reach the finish line?
Artificial intelligence is everywhere, from how you drive your car to the smooth shopping experience on Amazon Fresh. Many who “know” AI understand that this business transformation enabler won’t become sensational overnight. Many early successful companies started this effort several years ago.
CEOs have challenged their organizations to transform, innovate and reshape customer experience and product development while reducing costs before, during and after COVID-19. AI has become an enabler for both positive and negative aspects of business.
Has AI met and exceeded expectations? For most people, it’s still a work in progress. Has AI led to cost savings and a positive ROI? Most companies are still waiting.
A year from now, will CEOs see their companies post-AI? Has AI helped make their organizations safer? Has it increased their productivity?
These are all good questions. Is your organization experiencing significant staff turnover or layoffs to make the transition to AI more feasible? Has existing talent been a positive or negative factor in your AI efforts? Or did the organization orchestrate a series of layoffs to let go of the traditional workforce to advance the AI experience?
It’s a little bit of both. Are there still people the CEO kept close to him? Have they adapted to the new way of thinking, or have they joined in reshuffling the deck of human capital cards?
AI will have a huge impact on every company and individual. How this impact will change how we work and how we do it still requires a commitment to human capital leadership and technology experience to master AI.
The good news is that failure is an option with AI. Companies can be competitive and profitable without AI. Organizations can still be places where people want to build careers. Relying on AI to make decisions and provide predictions can be an excuse for making mistakes. CEOs need to stay aware of the inside and outside of their organization. Without human capital, AI would not exist.
