The new NotebookLM short video overview feature turns short-form video on its head. Google’s NotebookLM team announced this addition with the apt tagline, “Scrolling can be dangerous but educational.” This tool turns your documents into quick, easy-to-read explanations instead of endless scrolling.
The official pitch is direct. “We transform your most complex sources into 60-second vertical videos that dig deep into any concept,” the announcement reads. As a result, the same habit of eating your evenings on TikTok now allows you to read through your lecture notes instead.
60 seconds, vertical, built from source
The mechanism remains simple. Load your notes, PDFs, or other sources into your notebook, and NotebookLM generates a 60-second vertical video explaining the main ideas. Importantly, the output remains based on the uploaded material rather than the open web. This distinction distinguishes corrective aids from hallucinatory devices.

Early impressions seem promising. Digital Trends’ practice has found that this format makes exam revisions “more approachable” for student examiners, but the outlet warns that this feature is still in its infancy.
Who can get it and when?
Availability follows Google’s normal ladder. Short video summaries are now available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers on mobile and web. Free users will have access “immediately,” according to the announcement. At this time, videos are only produced in English, with additional languages not yet announced.
