Madonna says using AI is ‘the opposite of making art’

Madonna recently slammed artificial intelligence in a new interview with Vogue Italia, saying that relying on AI is “the opposite of making art.”

“It used to be that painters and musicians and dancers and artists would come together in the same place and work in a very pure place for each other, and I cherish that experience so much,” Madonna said. “Now I don’t do that anymore. I’ve started thinking about how many followers I have to get a record deal.”

she continued. “So in ‘Bring Your Love,’ we say, ‘Don’t try to distract yourself with numbers.’ For me, I’ve learned to stop thinking about charts and streaming numbers. Algorithms and artificial intelligence are the antithesis of risk-taking, which to me is the antithesis of making art.”

Madonna also said that she completely distances herself from technology and social distractions when summoning inspiration for new music.

“It’s been tough lately because of my record and a lot of things that are going on with it, but I like to take breaks and disappear because it stimulates my imagination,” Madonna explained. “I need quiet and I need days where I just connect with nature, my kids, and my horses.”

This isn’t the first time Madonna has taken a stance on technology. During a Q&A at the premiere of Confessions II – The Film, she said social media has instilled in people a “constant desire” to record everything. She also encouraged fans in attendance to “put down your phones and connect.”
