AI Video & Visuals

According to a study by online video editing platform Kapwing, almost 60% of TikTok videos are AI-driven, and the same is true for 21% of YouTube videos…

tennessee The study reports that it analyzed over 10,000 TikTok videos.

Almost 6 out of 10 videos TikTok distributes to new accounts are AI-generated junk. This is the central finding of a report published by video editing platform Kapwing, which analyzed 10,742 TikTok videos across 20 popular categories and individually examined the first 500 videos that appear on a newly created account’s For You page.

The exact percentage was 59%, but previous research found the same was true for 21% of YouTube videos.

This latest research reveals that the problem is even worse when it comes to videos aimed at children.

Within #CartoonKids, 97 of the 100 videos checked were generated by AI, leaving only 3 videos that appear to have been created by humans. Related tags were similar, with #cartoons and #babysong both reaching 83 percent and #forkids reaching 79 percent.

The company said “clearly AI-generated scripts and narration. ”

The good news is that the AI slop level was highest for new users with no viewing history, so both platforms can be trained to display less. But these are still pretty scary statistics, and the problem is only getting worse.

The site’s Ana Maria Constantin points out that video platforms emphasize quantity over quality and encourage people to upload AI-generated content.
