Windows 11 June Update adds AI PC NPU monitoring

Microsoft’s June Windows 11 update turns long-standing questions about AI PCs into something IT teams can see directly. Is the NPU actually doing any work?

With the June 9 update, you can now view NPU activity on supported Windows 11 PCs in Task Manager. For organizations testing Copilot+ PCs and other NPU-powered devices, AI PC evaluation becomes less dependent on vendor claims and more tied to endpoint checks that administrators can validate before rollout.

KB5094126 makes it easier to validate AI hardware

Microsoft’s KB5094126 update applies to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, resulting in builds 26100.8655 and 26200.8655, respectively. It also incorporates changes from the May 26 preview release, but Windows 11 23H2 remains on a separate update path.

The biggest change to AI PC is enhanced NPU monitoring in Task Manager. Microsoft defines a Copilot+ PC as a system with an NPU capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second. This makes NPU visibility useful for IT teams comparing AI PC claims to what Windows can see on managed hardware.

Windows ML supports CPU, GPU, and NPU execution providers, and routing depends on device, driver, app configuration, and provider availability. Low NPU activity is a reason for investigation and does not prove offload failure. Microsoft is also bringing AI agents to enterprise devices, adding new challenges to hardware validation.

This update also adds shared audio, multi-app camera controls, changes to Windows Hello sign-in, and improvements to two-letter file search.

Windows 11 AI PC Fleet Rollout Check

Start with the build number: 26100.8655 for Windows 11 24H2 and 26200.8655 for Windows 11 25H2. This version split is important for support teams who already need to know Microsoft’s backup plans when service changes impact their day-to-day operations.

IT teams also need to make sure Windows Hello works. Face or fingerprint becomes the default sign-in method when available, and Windows continues to use the PIN after three consecutive PIN sign-ins until you switch the method again. Check its behavior against your authentication policies, especially if your team is focused on how small flaws in endpoints can raise broader security questions.

Multi-app cameras also require a pilot. Multiple apps can use the same camera stream, helping users run meetings, recordings, or virtual camera tools in parallel. Please test with a standard video stack before enabling broadly.
