UPRTOU launches skill-based courses in AI and data analysis

Prayagraj: Students looking to build a career in emerging technologies will soon have the opportunity to acquire industry-relevant skills at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), the state’s only open university. The university plans to introduce a series of skill-based courses on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data analytics and other digital technologies from the next academic session starting in July 2026.The decision follows recent high-level discussions between university officials and representatives of TransNeuro IBM and Route to Roots regarding a proposed tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU). The partnership aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and provide students with skills that are increasingly in demand in the national and international job markets.Vice-Chancellor Professor Satyakam said AI and machine learning are transforming sectors such as education, medicine, agriculture, finance, public administration and research. He stressed that higher education institutions need to adapt to these changes and ensure that students are prepared for future challenges through practical and employment-oriented training.Under the proposed partnership, the university will offer short-term and certificate programs in AI, machine learning, data analytics, digital skills and other industry-focused technology areas. Students receive hands-on training from experts and gain the competencies they need in a rapidly evolving field of technology.Professor Satyakam said the purpose of universities goes beyond awarding degrees and also includes equipping learners with future-ready skills that increase employability. Subject to the approval of the university’s competent authority, the course is expected to start from the July 2026 session. This program is aimed at intermediate pass students, undergraduate students, and other learners interested in gaining technical expertise. Through the university’s distance and online learning system, students from remote parts of Uttar Pradesh will also be able to access the courses.University spokesperson Prabhat Chandra Mishra said the initiative will build a strong bridge between higher education, skill development and industry, opening up better employment and self-employment opportunities for thousands of youth in the state.
