Coinbase now allows users of the exchange to connect an artificial intelligence (AI) agent to their accounts, allowing the agent to perform trades, payments, and workflows on their behalf.
The new Coinbase for Agents will facilitate these connections, allowing agents to obtain complete information about users’ financial lives and act on their behalf, the company said in a blog post on Thursday (June 11).
Starting Thursday, Coinbase will enable spot crypto and derivatives trading, add stocks and index funds for trading, prediction markets and products, and make everything available on Coinbase available to agents, according to the post.
The company suggested in a release that agents can be used to take advantage of short-term market movements to do things like rebalance portfolios over several months. We monitor your cash position 24 hours a day and perform moves to ensure your idle funds are always working. If Coinbase for Agents is x402-enabled, pay for premium data and services.
“The way people interact with the internet is changing,” Coinbase said in a post. “People are increasingly navigating the world through agents rather than apps, and companies are rapidly rebuilding their products to be agent-first in turn. As that ecosystem grows, Coinbase for Agents will position itself as a trading and spending account at its core.”
PYMNTS reported in May that Coinbase executives told investors during an earnings call that they believe AI agents will become key economic participants, autonomously carrying out payments, transactions, and commerce activities online.

“With over 90% of on-chain agent stablecoin trading volume occurring on Base, we are leading the next frontier,” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said on a conference call. “We believe there will soon be billions of agents transacting. They need rails to accommodate them, and Coinbase is at the center of the agent economy.”
Coinbase announced in December that it had added an AI-powered financial management advisor called Coinbase Advisor to the Coinbase app. The company says Coinbase Advisor can provide personalized answers and recommendations in response to questions and commands such as “What’s the latest market news? How does it affect me?” or “Create a portfolio”
