
Just one day after its February 12, 2027 release date was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is at the center of controversy among fans following the reveal of its AI on the game’s Steam page.
Crystal Dynamics has since addressed the situation, confirming the use of the technology and explaining that it is being used to assist developers during production.
talk to polygonJeff Adams, director of experience at Crystal Dynamics, shared additional details about how the studio uses AI tools, explaining that the technology is specifically used to create placeholders and test assets during development.
“At Crystal Dynamics, we see AI as a tool to help teams get to the right answers faster,” Adams told Polygon. “At early levels of development, you might have an idea for an in-game object, but you might not know if you want a developer to build it over time. What we can do is generate AI It’s about visualizing it in the world using a tool. From there, the team can envision and build it. Ultimately, the final product will be created entirely by humans. We want to make it as easy as possible for the team to create a quality experience.”
The use of generative AI continues to be a hot topic across the gaming industry, with many players expressing concern that this technology could eventually replace human developers.
