The Korea Human Resources Development Agency (acting President Park Sang-cheol) is accelerating the construction of a human resources development (HRD) system based on artificial intelligence (AI). Following the creation of a national specialized AI training center, the organization is expanding its AI training programs and opening an innovation space to leverage generative AI in work. This marks a full-scale shift to internal and external AI.

On the 21st of last month, Park Sang-chul, acting director of the Korea Human Resources Development Institute, attended the opening ceremony of the “AI Specialized Joint Training Center” held at the Korea Robot Fusion Research Institute in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, and gave a speech. The service is working with the Ministry of Employment and Labor to support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their AI transformation (AX) through the new AI specialized joint training center initiative introduced this year. Twenty such centers are being set up across the country to help local SMEs adopt AI and strengthen the AI capabilities of industrial workers. In order to narrow the gap in AI utilization between the Tokyo metropolitan area and other regions, we selected centers in a well-balanced manner, taking into account the distribution of industries in each region. In particular, we will conduct practical training using AI technology, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises employees who are aware of the need to introduce AI but have difficulty applying it to their actual work.
On May 21, an opening ceremony was held at the Korea Robot Fusion Research Institute in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, for an AI specialized joint training center aimed at developing experts in the fields of physical AI and robotics. The Korea Robot Convergence Research Institute plans to train 360 experts in the fields of AI and robotics every year to meet the needs of more than 40 partner companies in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions. Additionally, we aim to establish an industry-specific AX support system centered on the field, such as providing project-based learning (PBL) centered on industrial sites, diagnosing and analyzing companies’ AI levels, providing customized AX consulting, and supporting the spread of AI introduction. The service will provide newly selected educational institutions with up to 500 million won each year for three years, or up to 1.5 billion won in total, to build training facilities and equipment infrastructure.
The service is also expanding its efforts in AI education. Since March, the company has selected and operated 200 basic AI training programs (116 institutions) and 31 AI convergence training programs (16 institutions). Basic AI training is designed around AI concepts and real-world applications, making it accessible to those without a technology background. Employees of priority support companies can cover the entire training cost. AI convergence training consists of intermediate and advanced courses that combine various industry jobs and AI techniques. These programs include mandatory real-time online classes, focus on practical exercises and Q&A sessions, and offer support for up to 90% of the training fee. Another feature is on-site training that utilizes company data and actual work environments.
In parallel with developing external human resources, the service is also focusing on strengthening the AI capabilities of its internal organization. HRDK AI Lab, which was recently established at the company’s Ulsan headquarters and named after the English abbreviation of the service, is an AI work innovation space where employees can directly experience and apply various generative AI technologies. This space is designed not just as a demonstration, but as a practical platform for real-world applications. Here, employees can take advantage of the latest generation AI services in a variety of areas, including video, audio, music, and visual content generation. Global AI services are offered via subscription, including Seedance 2.0 and Kling for video generation, HeyGen for AI avatar video production, and Napkin for visual content creation. We have also introduced meeting support functions that utilize AI, such as automating meeting summaries and creating report drafts, to improve employee work efficiency and reduce the burden of repetitive tasks. Through these initiatives, the service aims to foster an environment where employees can naturally incorporate AI into their daily work and strengthen the digital transformation capabilities of the entire organization.
