(May 29, 2026, 05:59 GMT | Official Statement) — MLex Overview: South Korea’s Ministry of Science, Information and Communications has announced plans to strengthen cybersecurity defenses against AI-based threats. The measures, discussed at the 9th Science and Technology Ministers’ Meeting on Friday, include establishing a governance framework to centralize the management of vulnerabilities and security patches, facilitate the sharing of cyberattack information, and coordinate responses to incidents. The ministry will also conduct cybersecurity inspections of major companies in the telecommunications, finance, healthcare and energy sectors, and provide tailored assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises and the public. Under this framework, the ministry will serve as a command center for responding to AI-based cyber attacks against private companies, and its affiliated agency, the Korea Internet Security Institute, will analyze and disseminate information on critical vulnerabilities and security patches across the public and private sectors. A statement is attached (in Korean).
