Paris, France, May 28, 2026 – Airbus has signed a partnership agreement with Mistral AI, a European leader in artificial intelligence (AI). The partnership supports Airbus’ ambition to put cutting-edge, ethical and trusted AI at the heart of Airbus’ operations and processes, from initial design to in-flight functionality.
The partnership will expand the use of artificial intelligence across Airbus’ commercial aircraft, helicopters, defense and space activities, including in critical and sensitive military aerospace applications, while adhering to strict security and sovereignty requirements.
“This partnership paves the way for the deployment of high-impact, high-value use cases for trusted and responsible AI in aerospace,” said Katherine Jestyn, Executive Vice President, Digital, Airbus. “Thanks to our high-performance models and bespoke support from Mistral AI experts, we are building the foundation we need to enhance our current and future products and services, allowing us to better serve our customers.”

Under the agreement, Airbus will license the entire Mistral AI product suite and will be able to deploy models on-premises, in a trusted cloud, or wherever it makes sense for Airbus and its customers. The partnership will also ensure Airbus access to Mistral AI’s leading researchers and influence on its AI product roadmap, enabling it to develop bespoke solutions to complex aerospace challenges.
Airbus and Mistral AI have identified several potential areas for cooperation, some of which have already begun.
- Industrial Operations: Streamline complex workflows, especially in automating technical documentation for commercial aircraft and helicopters.
- Engineering and design: Accelerate innovation and design cycles through AI-driven simulation, such as optimizing aircraft parts, or provide ad hoc support to engineers during development, testing, and certification.
- Next-generation products: We are exploring the deployment of AI models onboard spacecraft and aircraft (edge AI) for applications such as automatic object recognition, which could contribute to improved situational awareness and flight safety.
- Sovereign Defense Applications: Support military-specific needs such as cyber investigation and coding assistance through highly secure on-premises deployments.
