Hallmark Health Care Solutions announced the appointment of AI and data science pioneer Usama Fayyad to its Board of Directors, strengthening the company’s focus on AI-powered workforce intelligence and healthcare operations technology.
The company said Fayyad brings decades of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, enterprise data strategy and healthcare technology. His appointment comes as Hallmark continues to expand its workforce intelligence and enablement platform designed to help healthcare organizations improve workforce planning, physician enterprise management, compensation visibility and operational decision-making.
Bharat Sundaram said the company has already established a strong data and intelligence foundation to support next-generation AI-powered workforce decision-making tools. Sundaram added that Fayyad’s expertise will help Hallmark provide more actionable insights to healthcare leaders grappling with increasingly complex workforce and financial challenges.
Mr. Fayyad currently serves as Chairman of Open Insights, an AI and data consulting firm he founded in 2008. He also serves as Senior Vice President for AI and Data Strategy and Senior Advisor to the President at Northeastern University, where he is the founding director of the Institute for Experiential AI and Professor of Practice in the Cooley College of Computer Science.
Early in his career, Fayyad became the first executive to hold the title of chief data officer after Yahoo acquired one of his startups. He also spent five years working on AI and data mining efforts at Microsoft. While at Yahoo, he served as Chief Data Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Strategic Data Solutions while founding Yahoo Research Labs.
Mr. Fayyad also founded the Machine Learning Systems Group at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and later served as global chief data officer at Barclays. In addition, he co-founded OODA Health, a healthcare technology company that was acquired by Cedar in 2021.
According to Hallmark, Fayyad has written more than 100 technical articles, holds more than 20 patents, and is a fellow of both the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery.
Fayyad said that while healthcare organizations manage ever-increasing amounts of employee, financial and provider data, they still lack the real-time visibility needed to make coordinated operational decisions. He noted that many existing systems are primarily focused on transactions rather than providing actionable operational intelligence, adding that Hallmark’s platform is designed to provide greater visibility, coordination, and decision-making capabilities to healthcare systems.
Hallmark said its platform currently serves more than 50 health systems across the country. The company said its technology manages more than $10 billion in physician compensation annually, supports procurement for more than 25,000 clinicians, and is used by more than 100,000 users daily.
