We’ve been honoring Rich Homie Quan through posthumous music releases for months, but his latest video is making waves among fans for an entirely different reason.
The estate of the late rapper released a new visual for his 2022 PnB rock-inspired song “Still Dead” on Friday (May 22). But instead of a traditional music video, viewers witnessed a completely AI-generated version of Rich Homie Quan, and not everyone was ready for that.
AI tribute makes some fans uncomfortable
The video shows the AI-created Rich Homie Quan walking through a cemetery, spending time with children, recording in a studio, and performing a track. Although the project appears to be intended as an homage to the modern era, many fans said they were concerned about recreating it digitally.
“You could have given music after your death. [without] AI lol this made me sad [for real]” one person commented.
“I don’t like this,” someone else chimed in. “Let me rest.”
Another said: “I still get scared and creeped out when I see new music and new videos coming out in his honor. I get that, but it scares me every time. He needs a break and I hope we can give it to him 🕊️.”
For some supporters, seeing a digitally recreated version of the rapper brought more discomfort than comfort, raising questions about how far technology should go to honor artists posthumously.
Some people advocate for release.
“He has young children,” someone else tweeted. “As long as his wealth allows it and his family is paid, it’s fine. He was probably the breadwinner.”
Their responses highlight the growing debate surrounding AI in music, especially when it involves artists who no longer approve of how their images are used.
In memory of Rich Homy Quan
Rich Homie Quan passed away in September 2024 from an accidental drug overdose. Two posthumous projects were released after his death. Forever Goin’ In 2024 and legacy of hits In 2025, a compilation will be released featuring some of his most famous songs, including “Type of Way,” “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” and “Walk Thru” with Problem.
Now, “Still Dead” continues his legacy in a new and controversial way, prompting fans to consider the future of AI and memorialization in hip-hop.
