Meta has just informed employees how the layoffs will unfold.

Meta is preparing to cut 10% of its workforce on Wednesday, seeking clarity for those stuck in a layoff limbo.

Meta human resources director Janelle Gale posted a memo to an employee resource group on Monday outlining what employees should expect on Wednesday, according to two employees who saw the memo.

Gale said the notice of job cuts, which is expected to eliminate around 8,000 roles, will be sent in three waves to different regions at 4 a.m. local time.

He also said the company will cut management positions across the company to create a flatter organizational structure.

“We are now at a stage where many organizations can operate in a flatter structure with smaller teams in pods/cohorts that can move faster and with more ownership,” she writes.

Gale also said Meta plans to move more than 7,000 employees to work on new AI-related initiatives that are critical to its future success and that the company has not previously prioritized. She told employees that leaders across the company would announce organizational changes at the same time as the layoffs.

Business Insider previously reported that some teams within Meta’s Reality Labs have already begun reorganizing into smaller pods.

Mehta declined to comment. Reuters earlier reported on the memo to staff.

Current employees say the update comes amid low morale at Meta. One employee told Business Insider that employees are in a “holding pattern” as they wait to see which jobs will be laid off.

Meta is investing billions of dollars in the AI race, predicting in April that 2026 capital spending will be in the range of $125 billion to $145 billion.

Business Insider previously reported that meta leaders told staff they would not rule out further cuts beyond this Wednesday’s 10% round.
