Based in Toronto, Ontario, this paid internship program is designed to support emerging AI talent by providing hands-on industry experience, mentorship, and collaborative research opportunities within Canada’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence ecosystem.

This internship specifically aims to support diversity and inclusion in AI by prioritizing opportunities for qualified Black and Indigenous students and graduates of Canadian higher education institutions.

Paid AI Internship Opportunities in Canada

The Applied Machine Learning Internship allows participants to directly participate in developing reusable AI software solutions and applying cutting-edge machine learning research to real-world problems.

Applied Machine Learning Intern Main Responsibilities

Interns will contribute to multiple AI and machine learning initiatives focused on real-world implementation and research translation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing AI software applications and prototypes
  • Build reusable machine learning model templates
  • Working with public and private datasets
  • Supports training, testing, and deployment of AI models
  • Contributing to open source AI software projects
  • Participate in industry AI initiatives
  • Report and presentation of project results
  • Assistance with software engineering and operational tasks

Interns also contribute to proofs of concept and AI systems designed to solve real-world business and societal challenges.

Required technical skills and qualifications

Vector Institute is seeking motivated candidates with a strong technical foundation and an interest in artificial intelligence research and software development.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must:

  • Self-identify as a Black or Indigenous student, postdoctoral fellow, or recent graduate
  • Studying at or recently graduated from a Canadian university or college
  • Be a 2nd year student or above, or within 1 semester of graduation

Required technical skills

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of machine learning and statistics
  • Python programming experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in AI systems and applied research
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Those with technical experience welcome

The program also values ​​applicants with advanced AI technology and software engineering experience.

Desired skills include:

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks:
