Integrating GITAM, AI, and ML into pharmacy curriculum

Machine Learning

GITAM Deemed University will introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) components in the pharmacy curriculum from the academic year 2026-27 in line with the latest guidelines of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

At a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, GITAM School of Pharmacy Principal Professor L. Srinivas said the initiative aims to enable students to meet the demands of an increasingly data-driven healthcare field. He said the revised curriculum will include specialized modules focused on formulation development, molecular modeling and drug safety using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools.

The main feature of the updated Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) syllabus is the introduction of a subject titled “Artificial Intelligence and Python Programming for Pharmacy”, which aims to strengthen the computational and analytical skills of students in parallel with Pharmacy.

Prof Srinivas said the university aims to produce graduates who can work in technology-enabled medical environments. He added that the School of Pharmacy continues to maintain its National Accreditation Board (NBA) status and consistently ranks among the top 35 schools in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of approximately 5,000 pharmacy schools in the country.

Senior faculty member Professor Annapoorna, Head of Admissions Anish Kumar and other university representatives were present.
