AI trainer becomes head of international recruitment department of Hong Kong company

AI News

The role of AI trainer has become the most popular international hire for Hong Kong companies, surpassing traditional technology roles such as mobile application developer, software developer, and business developer. That’s according to the latest information Global employment report By Deel, a global HR and payroll company, cited by industry website Human Resources Online.

The platform said this development reflects the growing priority of artificial intelligence within enterprises, a trend that is particularly evident in large enterprises in Hong Kong. In contrast, small and medium-sized enterprises still focus on cross-border recruitment efforts for software developers, sales managers, and software testers.

This change is also part of a broader market evolution. According to SEEK, Deel’s job market partner, demand for AI-related skills in Hong Kong has increased by 38% since 2019.

As of February 2026, 4.8 per cent of all Hong Kong job advertisements on SEEK featured AI skills, up from around 1 per cent in 2022.

Deel’s annual report draws conclusions from more than 1 million worker contracts from more than 37,000 companies in more than 150 countries. The study found that Hong Kong organizations are expanding employment across borders. The reason for this is not primarily to cut costs, but to provide access to global expertise as competition for highly skilled talent increases.

The sectors with the highest demand for international recruitment are technology and communications, professional and business services, and finance and insurance. India, the US and the UK remain Hong Kong’s main markets for overseas recruitment, according to Human Resources Online.
