A study conducted by Mexico’s Interinstitutional Observatory on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education revealed that 161 higher education institutions in 31 states completed a closed questionnaire consisting of nine sections and 118 items to investigate how intelligent automation is being integrated.

65% of institutions do not have a strategy in place to help students understand how they use AI in their academic work, and only 37% have defined specific guidelines in this area. On the other hand, 75% of participating higher education institutions do not have licenses to use intelligent system resources and applications to support educational practices, 68% do not collaborate with other higher education institutions at national level in this area, and only 10% have integrated AI-based management models into educational administration.

The survey shows that 50% of higher education institutions offer continuing education courses focused on the analysis or application of AI to external audiences, and 37% have professional development plans in this area of computer science for faculty.
